What is Led & Led Lighting

What is LED Lighting.

LED lighting is a very energy efficient light source. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) are solid state semiconductor chips that convert electrical energy directly into light.

Advantages of  LED Lighting.

  • Long life -  LEDs have an extremely long lifespan compared to other light sources. Most LEDs are rated at 30,000 - 50,000 hours. They will continue to work after this time but the light intensity will slowly decrease. Incandescent, halogen and compact fluorescent lamps generally are rated at 3000 - 5000 hours.
  • Reduced power consumption - LEDs use considerably much less energy. In some cases you can save up to 90% electricity compared to incandescent lamps. For example the Ecofire 6 watt LED bulb is equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent globe in light output but uses 90% less electricity.
  • Reduced heat - LEDs generate much less heat than incandescent  and halogen lamps.
  • Environmentally friendly - LED lamps do not contain any harmful substances such as mercury and lead as opposed to compact fluorescent lamps.
  • No UV or IR rays - unlike compact fluorescent lamps, LEDs do not emit ultraviolet or infrared rays. So LEDs do not attract insects and are friendly to people sensitive to UV rays.
